The exhibition inaugurates the contemporary art space of the Liria Palace, located in the old stables. Based on the 21 autographed letters of Christopher Columbus found in the collection, the multidisciplinary artist Denise De la Rue has created a dialogue between this exceptional and unique epistolary material and NASA's expeditions to space.

Denise De la Rue has purposely created a set of pieces that will be exhibited throughout the contemporary art room. Specifically, the Mexican artist has designed more than 20 sculptures inspired by artefacts and objects that have been present in NASA missions and a series of meteorite recreations. On these works, Denise De la Rue establishes a dialogue and superimposes excerpts from the above-mentioned letters from Columbus and documents from the Apollo Missions, such as the Apollo 11 moon landing document belonging to the National Archive Museum in Washington D.C. In this way, the voyage of Columbus and the conquest of space, the exploration of our planet and the cosmos, are interrelated through the first-person testimonies of its protagonists. In addition to these unpublished pieces, the exhibition incorporates artistic replicas of objects from the NASA collection and the pilot Buzz Aldrin, who participated in the first trip to the Moon in 1969, adding another dimension to the exhibition. “Our exploration, whether of planet Earth or of the cosmos,” explains the artist herself, “is ultimately an exploration of our soul and of our interconnection with the universe.”

Access to this exhibition is included with the purchase of tickets to the palace or any other temporary exhibition in progress.
