The Decorative Arts are the protagonists of a new thematic visit to the Liria Palace.

One of the great attractions of the Liria Palace are the Decorative Arts. For that same reason, we wanted to give them a special place in the palace by creating a new Thematic visit. This is an informative tour in which we will learn more about the most outstanding pieces of the ducal collection that decorate the halls of the palace today, as well as their history and evolution.

To begin with, it is important that we know what type of pieces we are going to refer to during the visit. What are the Decorative Arts?

They are all those artistic activities that create objects whose purposes are functionality and aesthetics. In other words, they embellish the spaces they occupy and serve a specific purpose. Over time, these pieces have become authentic works of art.

With the definition of Decorative Arts, it is important to know the classification of these arts, a more or less generic classification, which includes the most important typologies depending on the materials used: ceramic, glass, wood, metal (frames, goldsmithery, jewelry...), textiles (tapestries, carpets, embroideries, dresses...) and leather (Cordobanes and Guadamecís). But also to the type of pieces: (furniture, frames, upholstery...)

The palace offers a range of possibilities when it comes to decorative arts, since among the most outstanding pieces we will find Salamanca desks, lamps unique in the world, miniatures, tapestries from the 16th century, pieces from the personal collection of Empress Eugenia de Montijo, and a long etc.

But... Why was the development of Castilian furniture so late? What are the main differences between Murano glass and that of the San Ildefonso Farm? Can we speak of a 'Eugenie style' in honor of the Empress of France?
